HI everyone! My name is Trish, I'm 19 and I'm a first time Hedgie owner and I am most certainly in love! His name is Mack and I'm not sure how old he is. I have had him since monday and he is already so friendly and sociable. Yesterday he nestled in close with me and fell asleep.
Our first night was a bit scary!! Not knowing my little adventurer could get out of his storage bin, I put him on top of my dresser to keep him out of reach of my dog (im not sure i trust her yet) and in the middle of the night, I heard this loud scratching and I got up and found him behind my dresser!! So I checked him and he was fine. Then I put him on the floor in a different container and he got out two more times. I stayed up with him until he went to sleep. The next day I put him in my old rabbit cage and he seems to really like it. I keep it lined with polar fleece as I found the pine to be REALLY messy and I was worried about it getting into his little man parts  I look forward to all of your stories!!

Awww, what a cutie. From the little bit I can see of it, it looks like you have the same cage as me, and the same wheel, lol.

Mack is such an adorable little guy... Love that cute face! Nice colour too. No wonder why you're in love! Welcome to the forum and good luck keeping him in the cage.

Ha Ha. Same thing happend to me. I was a first time chin owner in April. I didn't realize they could crawl/slide under the glass doors to the fireplace. I heard one of them scratching and thought, OMG, he's crawled up the chimney flue. I just panicked. I was grabbing pillows in case he fell and trying to stick my arm up the chimney. It turned out, he was down on the floor under the grating. Well, right after that, I put duct tape all the way across but boy, did I panic and sweat for awhile.
I'm glad you posted pictures. I have the same cage, my little rabbit died. I didn't know what to get as the cage is too small for chins and the holes are too big for a hamster. Maybe I will get a hedgie
Your new guy is a cutie! And you sound like a good mommy!

Oh my god! I would have been crying. It's really scary sometimes! Worrying if they are ok or not. Or if they are bored. Thank you!

That wheel is too small. I noticed it was the other night and I left it in there thinking he would put it to some other use. Last night I had the light on and herd him wheeling. I looked over and both his arms and one of his legs were inside "wheeling" and the leg outside was used for balance. It was so cute but I felt so bad for him! It seemed really frustrated. My boyfriend just got back with a new one!

Congratulations and welcome to you and Mack! He's adorable! Really neat coloring too - does he have some patches of white quills? I love the little rock (?) he is standing on to reach his water bottle. Looks like you have a great set-up for him...even a toilet paper tube!
Cant wait to hear more stories about Mack. He may look innocent enough, but sounds like he's a bit mischievous!
