When i wake Mack up during the day to get some play time in, I take him out, let him wake up and he crawls all over me, and is really nice. When he wakes up at night on his own and I go to take him out, he quills up and breathes in and out really quickly and loudly. What is that called? And when I get him out of his cage, he isn't like that anymore. Only when he is in his cage at night. Why is this?

He's probably just a bit more cautious at night, because he's a bit more awake. In the daytime, hedgehogs are usually a bit sluggish for the first while, since their bodies aren't used to being awake. You know that look they give you when you wake them up? That look says "Human? Why are you waking me up? Do you realize it's daytime?"

I don't think it's anything to worry about, just go extra slow at night when he's in his cage. Before you pick him up, talk to him and tell him you want to cuddle. Eventually, he'll loosen up. :)
