My friend gave me her hedgie and I just found mine a new home :(.I didn't really plan on taking hers but what else could I do she was just going to give it away.Im taking it to the vet tommorow to get its nails trimmed and a proper check up.But my petstore only sells vitakraft hedghog food that expired in 2002?Im not buying that I fed my other hedgie Fancy feast. But when I bought my hedghog it was on ferret food.

But anyways this hedgehog is going to be on a new food?Any suggestions Fancy feast or Iams we dont have much of a selection in this town.Or Eagle pack?

Shes getting her nails trimmed and a check up
Her quills seem to be fine

But I noticed on the hedgie it looks as if her ears are torn a bit on the tips.

But this hedgehog has no socialization whats so ever.
It hisses when I feed or disturb it when is sleeps. Its friendly in the bath but never outside the bath?

How can I socialize it,Like I dont have alot of time in the day and after I get this hedgy tamed I will most likely find a home for her.But any ideas to get her so I can handle her without gloves?

Don't feed Fancy Feast or Iams. Both are crap. Eagle Pack is better, I believe.

Just handle her daily to socialize her. Hedgehogs are naturally shy animals.

feed it chicken soup for the cat lovers soul, inova evo, royal canin slim 37-38 or other high end foods that are high in protien and low in fat, also you can feed it other foods as treats like small quanities of hard boiled eggs, baby foods, cooked veggies that have been choped up,meal worms, silkworms, crickets, some fruits like canalope, strawberries, rasberries, mulberries just make sure that hey are cut up and that the are washed and pesticide free.

Ok I would buy those types of foods. But we dont have them here. The best I could do is use Eagle pack or hills science diet.

Im going to try to litter train her.Im just going to use corn cob as litter and put a tray in there.Should I put some of her poop in there so she gets the picture?

Of those choices go with Eagle Pack for diet.
Ditch the corncob for litter substrate. It can become moldy when wet and you don't want your hedgie eating it. You would be better off using paper toweling. It's cheap, absorbant and you almost always have some in your house.
Get her on a better diet before you start adding treats to her regimine. You want her eating good foods or else she'll just eat the treats and that will lead to other problems.
You have to give her time to adjust to her new environment! This takes time and lots of patience on your behalf. I use Rescue Remedy with my new hogs- I add it to their water and I swear by it. I use soft flannel blankets and sit with my new hogs on the couch, computer, etc. That way they are covered and secured, plus they start to become familiar with me through scent.

Do you know how old is she is? You also have to prepare that she may not ever decide to be real people friendly

I hope things work out for you, but I just have to ask....You said in you classified that you had to give up your hedgie because you didn't have anytime for her due to your family situation and all your other animals..I get that..But then why get rid of yours..take in another and also ask for a "train" as you are getting your friends "gliders"?
Just curious.:)
