I dont see too many topics on this. (and I dont have a chin yet) I am lloking around the forums on chin info, because I may get one soon (Or a hedgie) and I saw on wikipedia, that you pick up your chin by its tail. I can understand why, but I want to make sure this is true before I get one. Thanks in advance for the info!

many members hold there chin's that way during grooming.. i never do, mine would take a few fingers off for me.. i hold dusty next to me real snug.. just about like a baby tote..

If you attempt to hold your chinnie by the tail, make sure you have a breeder/knowledgable chin person show you how. :)

Get someone with the know-how to show you first. I still reserve tail holding for 'I don't dare let go' type of occasions.
I also made the mistake of grabbing one of the cats that way one day. Won't be making that mistake again.

once an experienced person shows how to hold by the tail it is a good idea to use this method when you are in a situation that you really don't want your chin to get away. It also causes the least amount of damage to the fur.

I've only held my chin by his tail in very desperate situations like he was being too difficult to catch and that was the only part of him available for grasping and for grooming which he hates by the way. Normally I just let him perch on the back of my hand or arm he'll sit peacfully like this as long as he's getting pet at the same time.
Oh yeah TAF I've had my run ins with cats and their tails before they won't thank you for that believe me.
