I dont know of anywhere near me, that sells tim or alf hay. Only place I could think of is maybe PetSmart, but thats kind of a way for me. Anyone else know of other places? Maybe Wal-Mart in the pet section?

I doubt you could find it at Wal-Mart (though the number of things you can get at Wal-Mart never ceases to amaze me). And even if you could, it likely wouldn't be very fresh hay. Chain petstores usually carry it, but in pretty small bags and with big markups. What about a farm supply or feed store? Probably your best bet though is to order some from a reputable place (American Pet Diner, Oxbow, etc). If it's an emergency though, petstore hay is better than no hay at all.

I agree with Adam. Check a farm supply or feed store if you need to find hay local. Otherwise, order it online. I just got a great batch of 2nd cut timothy from www.kmshayloft.com. Where are you located? There may be someone close to you who sells hay and the shipping may be cheaper.

petsmart does sell it but online would be your best buy but in emergency you can get it there usually, call before you go there and ask if they have it in stock, and my walmart only sells alfalfa. Rachel

Petsmart does sell one decent hay, Alfalfa King. You can get in alfalfa or timothy but it 4.99 for a one pound bag. I actually feed an AK oat/rye on a regular basis but I order it online because the prices are waaaaaaaay more reasonable. At Wally world you are probably going to be stuck with Kaytee hay.

I've heard Walmart carries some hay, but usually Kaytee, and that's crap anyway. I use americanpetdiner.com as well. Their hay is fresh and my babies LOVE it.

you can get American Pet Diner, Oxbow, Alfalfa king, Kleenmamas ( my favorite, its always so fragrant and green!) Or you can go to a local feed store and check out the hay they have there. Hay should be fragrant, and not smell old or moldy. It shouldn't look moldy either. Another test you can do is take a handful of hay, and twist it into a knot. It shouldn't break the stems to much, but it shouldn't stay in the same twist when you release it, as that would make it damp which is bad.

Try to locate a feed store near you, or one that you can make a trip too every now and again. I get Timothy hay cubes in a 50lb bag for $14 at a local feed store. The cubes are much better than hay at lasting longer and staying fresh in the bag or in a snap-lid bucket.
