Okay, I know, I know, it's still July and *way* hot! So why am I thinking about a heater?!?! :winkgrin:

Well, here's the deal: My Dad will *never* keep the house at 73 degrees all winter. :) He's just too thrifty. It's generally around 68 and higher when we have a fire in the woodstove. But I know that's not enough.

So, I'm looking into getting a stand alone heater for my room. And I'm wondering what your opinions are. What kind should I look for? What kind do you use (well, you all probably keep your houses at 73!) and do you like it? How much should I be looking at spending?

Thanks in advance!

I keep a little space heater in my room, along with an electric heating pad I keep under Hemi's bag. My parents (especially mom) are really good about keeping Hemi's room (lol) warm, but sometimes, a little extra is needed. I turn the space heater on to boost the overall temperature, and then turn the heating pad on low in case she's extra chilly. Works well.

As for price, I'm not sure... I kind of stole this one from my sister. Shh...

LOL! :) I'm sure your sister doesn't mind... :)

Thanks for the reply. I'll just keep my eye open, and hopefully I'll find a good bargain! :)

I know my boyfriend got a great one from Canadian Tire (I don't know if you have that in Nebraska) for $35. It can be a heater or a fan, depending on what you want, and can be set to click in when the temperate drops below a set amount. It's a wonderful thing.

Actually I keep my house at 68 for the chinchillas. I use a ceramic heater for the hedgehog room which works just fine.

Could I possibly ask you to find out exactly which brand he bought? I need to get one for the fall/winter/spring, and that's exactly what I'm looking for!

Thanks!

And as far as I know, Canadian Tire is only in Canada. :)

I am in the same boat. My house stays in the upper 60's. I would get a heater for my room but I could not sleep with my room at 75 degrees. I've gotten to used to sleeping in 68 degree temps.

Wish I had an extra room to put my hedgehog in but I can't do that in my house. Oh well I will figure something out.

Pssst Courtney, notice the word 'Canadian'. Canadian Tire is only in Canada. :laugh:

I have two types of heater. One is a ceramic one with digital display. It really pumps out the heat BUT, if the power blinks off for even a second, the heater turns off and does not come back on again until it is turned back on. This type is no good if you go to work or school or are out of the house for hours at a time.

The other one is an oil filled radiator type. It provides a nice warm quiet heat and there are no cold spots anywhere in the room. It is not affected if the power blinks off, it will come right back on. The only thing I have against it is it takes so long to get the room up to temperature but once there I love it. :)

I did a search on the Canadian Tire website and the product information is:

The Honeywell Surround heater can be placed in the middle of your room and still provide heat to everyone around it.
* Honeywell mini tower surround heater
* Provides two heating options - direct (front heat only) or full surround heat (projected 360°)
* Adjustable thermostat
* Three settings (high, low, fan only)
* Tip-over switch
* Extra-long power cord for placement in the centre of the room
* Child-resistant selector switch
* Model No. HZ-2200C
* Product# 43-5873-0
* Price $36.99 CDN

It's really a wonderful little model. We're not sure how the fan part of it works yet, since it's only been used for keeping a finished basement room warm.
